Sometimes I want someone of higher-ups stand up and start saying (like Steve Ballmer said once): competence, competence, competence, competence!
Incompetence is a terrible thing, especially when it creeps into all spheres of our lives. It is the same as ignorance - which is actually the cause of many faults in our society.

Craftmanship. Do many want to be journeymans?

Reading about the Long Road, I cannot stop thinking: how many developers are actually ready to take the "Long road'? During the recent years, ROI for a guy who decided to take IT has decreased dramatically. On the one hand, less people are coming here only because it is "fashionable" or "easy to raise quick money". On the other, guys who could do very good are going to finance and such because perspective is brighter there.
So, for whom this chapter is supposed to be written? For self-motivated eager-to-learn programming geek?
